CLIENT MEETING NOTES
Interview Questions and Answers:
- Why did you feel compelled to join Women4Change?
Mobilize women to become politically and civically engaged in the community
State level organization but IUPUI was the first collegiate organization
3 pillars -- engagement, education, empowerment
Invite interactive speakers to meetings
Educate people on issues that affect women
Service activities to give back to and engage in the community -- Keep Indy beautiful, Coburn Place and Girl Scouts
Participate in marches and movie screenings
Main empowerment event is the April Leadership Conference (speakers from planned parenthood, office of student employment to discuss wage negotiation, and sustainability)
- Our challenge is to look at event advertisements for IUPUI chapter of Women4Change.
- Current strategies for advertising?
Social media (instagram -- low following and engagement) and email list (once a month) -- email lists go to ~669 people but only 42% open the email, not even necessarily read it
Struggling to get people from non-STEM majors
Call out meeting got about ~50 people and following meetings got ~20-30 people last semester
Facebook page is basically instagram page but with some extra stuff, less traffic than instagram
- Target audience?
Students on campus
- Where/how would you like us to conduct the local study? We were thinking of asking people the following yes/no questions:
-
Have you heard of the Women4Change organization on IUPUI’s campus?
-
Have you heard or been to any of the events or service activities that they have put on and participated in?
-
What forms of social media do you prefer?
-
-
Focus on one or all events? (they have a huge conference in April)
-
Advertise for monthly meetings as well?
-
Focus on the main conference and how to advertise for a conference type event, if it gets TOO specific then we can branch out
- Do you want us to get in touch with the marketing committee?
Yes
-
Are there any areas that you would like to improve on within that committee that we can recommend ideas for?
They make flyers
Need to do more to make flyers SEEN and make people excited
Already told them they should contact multicultural organizations on campus to get the word out, tabling setup at campus and multicultural center (audience would be those types of people to walk through the multicultural center)
- Discuss their social media accounts?
-
Would you like us to try to find ways to advertise through social media? Yes
-
Refer to above notes about their facebook/instagram
- What obstacles have you encountered that have made advertising difficult?
Not a ton of traffic on their social media accounts
They are a young organization so not many people even know about it
- Potential budget?
-
Advertisements want to primarily be paperless
-
They have funding from parent organization and office of women as well as member dues (~$1000) -- okay to find apps that cost
They mostly pay for events through grant money
-
Start researching good advertisement strategies and bring those up in the meeting as potential recommendations
Specific requests from Isra:
RESEARCH how people might perceive a “feminist” organization/gender roles and how to combat that when advertising -- really just a support organization, very inclusive so how do we get that information out?
Tentative recommendations:
Add polls on instagram stories?
Potential snapchat account with snap QR code
Create stickers and pins, among other free things, at tabling events (promo items)
